Palliative Dementia Care

Funded by the Friends Foundation and launched in October, 2014, Honor, Dignity, and High Quality Living through Palliative Dementia Care is a one-year pilot collaboration with three skilled nursing facilities and targets an under-served group of older adults ‒ residents with the physiological, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). The program includes assessment of facility strengths and weaknesses; education of staff, family, and residents; interdisciplinary team (IDT) palliative care plans; implementation of a facility–specific program; and use of proven evaluation and quality-maintenance methods.
